The South Texas Veterans Health Care System was one of 32 VA medical centers named Top Performers on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America.
Congratulations to the 32 VA medical facilities named “top performers” by the independent panel that accredits and certifies health care organizations.
“We are proud of the medical facilities that have been recognized for demonstrating VA’s commitment to provide the high-quality care our Veterans have earned through their service,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. “This achievement highlights the hard work of our VA medical staff to serve Veterans.”
The recognition came from The Joint Commission, a not-for-profit organization that ensures the quality of U.S. health care by its intensive evaluation of more than 20,000 health care organization. All 151 VA medical facilities are accredited by The Joint Commission

A total disconnect from the State va nursing system!
I am happy to see that Ft wayne, IN made the list. And relieved to see that Houston did NOT!. As good as Ft Wayne is, Houston is worse. I hope to revisit Houston to see some major improvements in their health care delivery. Very disappointed in their care of my uncle a few years ago.
Why is the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center listed here in the top 32 VA centers for top performers? I just saw on CNN two days ago where Veterans are needlessly dying for a lack of adequate care and it takes forever to get vital appointments at this medical facility. Now I know all this is a bunch of lies and make-believes. Take all this with a grain of salt folks.
WHAT a crock!!! .. the Wilmington, Del. VA is more like a welfare camp for the lazy, hostile and inept locals! if you want to find any of the support staff look in the cafeteria, PX or the break rooms .Some of The interns/ Doctors are indifferent and incompetent ,
I have been getting my care at the BAY PINES VA Hospital since 2001. I have had such good care and very caring physicians. ESP Dr. Stephen Fink Rhuematologist. He is the main reason that I drive 3 hours one way to get care.
At all my appts, I am seen within 5 minutes of my appt time and my Drs listen to my concerns relating to my health changes as I age.

Very disappointing not to see Tucson VA Hospital and associated Clinics on the list!
I find it perverse that five of the 32 facilities listed are constantly being bashed as being uncooperative with veterans, with less then desirable communications with veterans and downright ignorance toward veterans, using a method so closely mimicking a cattle shoot and now they are among the 32 top ones. That is a shame
Maybe the NH VA in Manchester, New Hampshire and the VA clinic at Pease in Portsmouth don’t qualify because they are not officially “hospitals”, but I’ve got to tell you that they are Top Performers in my book!
I live equal distance from three VA Medical Centers, none of which are on the list. There are almost one million veterans living in the state I live, and none are on the list. This is really comforting to those of us not going to a top performer
I CAN NOT believe that the VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina was not on this list! The doctors, nurses and clerical staff have always been very efficient while performing their professional duties.
