“When I helped open the Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic in March of 1991, I worked to improve clinical service for Veterans by adopting a primary care approach. This involved the implementation of a computerized patient records system (among other initiatives), which has resulted in expedited clinical processes and higher patient satisfaction. Another noteworthy aspect of this clinic is the longevity of its employees. Until 2010, I never had to recruit a new physician for the team I developed 20 years ago. Nearly all of our current staff members have been here since day one, and that says a lot about how much we truly enjoy working here.”
“And why wouldn’t we enjoy working here? With fewer than 60 employees, we’re a close-knit team, even family-like—something that’s hard to find in bigger hospitals. Our rural setting provides comfortable surroundings that make us feel at home. What’s more, we have the advantage of being a private practice without having any concern for billing or insurance coverage. There are many administrative and reimbursement issues that come with running a typical private practice, but it’s different here. We deliver services to Veterans based on their comprehensive needs—not on billing considerations—which allows us to be true patient advocates.”
