The Take a Closer Look at VA (TACLVA) program is having a positive impact on VHA health care recruitment efforts. Since its implementation, TACLVA has generated 455 employment leads (including 123 MDs and 286 other healthcare providers).
The TACLVA program began in in FY 2013 and is VA’s first agency-wide strategic recruitment initiative targeting VHA Health Professions Trainees while they receive training in VHA. TACLVA is an ongoing collaboration between the VHA Healthcare Recruitment and Marketing Office (HRMO) and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA). Key stakeholders to the program include VHA HRMO, VHA OAA, facility Designated Education Officers (DEO), facility Human Resources (HR) Offices, facility clinical hiring managers, and facility Public Affairs Officers (PAO).
The goal of the TACLVA initiative is to provide the finest health care available to our Nation’s Veterans. With the TACLVA initiative, VHA will reach out to Health Professions Trainees who represent an experienced and satisfied pool of talent, and encourage them to consider the many exceptional employment opportunities across VHA.
“It’s pretty rare that a prospective employee has an opportunity to ‘test-drive’ an employer. In the case of VHA Health Professional Trainees, they get a taste of our organization and mission while receiving medical education in VA Medical Centers across the country,” said James Marfield, National Healthcare Recruitment Consultant (VISN 15) and TACLVA project officer.
“In many cases, rigorous academic schedules make it difficult for them to fully explore what a potential VA career would look like,” added Marfield. “The TACLVA program facilitates this career-exploration process and provides an easy click-through process for those ready to take the next step in recruitment.”
There are currently 221,873 VHA Health Professions Trainees receiving quarterly e-mails with calls to action.

I have utilized USA jobs webb site to apply for available positions. I am a CA licensed clinical laboratory scientist. Once my application is submitted I receive confirmation of its receipt and when positions close. Months pass with no further communication. I possess years of experience in blood bank transfusion services/ donor center.

No pat answer but I’d suggest that once you complete the application process, you Email and call the POC listed on the announcement and ask them to check and verify your application is complete. Sometimes, candidates are passed over due to an incomplete application and what’s missing can sometimes be overlooked by the applicant.
