Under Secretary for Health to fill top leadership positions

Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has four critical hiring needs in the Washington, D.C. metro area in key leadership roles, working with the Under Secretary for Health, Dr. David J. Shulkin.

As Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Shulkin oversees the delivery of care to more than 9 million enrolled Veterans. VHA employs more than 305,000 health care professionals and support staff at more than 1,400 sites of care, including hospitals, community based outpatient clinics, nursing homes, domiciliaries, and 300 Vet Centers.

Four key executive leadership positions have been announced, including:

Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Operations and Management

VHA is currently hiring a healthcare operations expert with experience in leading a team, driving results, managing resources and building coalitions to achieve common goals. Duties include: supervising a network of 21 Directors with a focus on implementation of national priorities; problem-solving complex operational issues; evaluation of current practices and recommendations for changes; and development of key relationships. Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Health (PDUSH) – Physician

VHA is also hiring a licensed Physician to act as the immediate and full assistant to the Under Secretary for Health. The PDUSH represents VHA through executive level management of operations. Duties include: communication of VHA vision to other governmental organizations; oversight of senior level staff; developing national strategic and business planning priorities, among others. Chief of Staff

VHA is searching for an experienced manager from a complex healthcare organization for the Chief of Staff role, who advises the Under Secretary for Health on matters involving personnel administration, equal employment opportunity and civil rights; organizational analysis and design, and productivity and quality improvements. Working in the Central Office (CO), this role serves as the senior staff advisor to the Under Secretary for Health. Management experience in the following areas needed: information; legislative, regulatory, and public affairs; human capital; and financial. Deputy Chief of Staff

VHA is searching for a candidate with proven leadership skills to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff. In this role, duties include: representing and speaking in the absence of the Chief of Staff in high level relating to policies, practices, management, and operational activities; and coordinating the policies, plans and operational approaches designed to most effectively carry out the missions of VHA. The Deputy Chief of Staff is responsible to the Chief of Staff.
