Ever wondered if Veterans living in the country can access the same quality of care offered by facilities in the big city? VA’s Office of Rural Health (ORH) helps ensure they do. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has locations around the country for the 3 million Veterans living in rural communities. The first and second blogs in this series talked about our Pacific Northwest and Rural networks.

But rural doesn’t have to mean somewhere desolate and isolated. You could say that the Key West VA Outpatient Clinic is the southernmost VA facility in the continental U.S. Did you know you can help serve our Nation’s Veterans and their families AND soak up the sun in St. Thomas? We’ve got facilities located in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico too.

Considering a career move? In order to help reduce the ratio of Veterans to health care providers, VHA encourages physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to move to the country – or islands. Check out the locations below and see if you’d like to help their staff ensure Veterans can thrive in America’s outlying communities.

We have five facilities located on St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas. This string of islands has been described as a stunning, tranquil utopia, and now you can call it home as a VHA employee. With average yearly temperatures in the 80s and pleasant trade winds to keep cool and comfortable, living on any of the Virgin Islands is a dream.

The facilities below offer primary, preventative and chronic care as well as pharmacy, EKG, and phlebotomy and laboratory testing. Podiatry services are also available with visiting staff from the San Juan VA Medical Center.

  • St. John – St. John Rural Clinic
  • St. Croix – St. Croix Vet Center Outstation and Saint Croix CBOC
  • St. Thomas – St. Thomas Vet Center Outstation and Saint Thomas CBOC

Not only do these locations offer sun and an island lifestyle, but VHA also makes it easy to transfer with no loss of benefits and no re-licensing required. VA employees are able to transfer to any other facility they’d like without having to get a new license. Plus, they get to keep the benefits they already have in place.

If you think a facility in our Sunshine Network may not be the right fit, we also have opportunities at unique rural locations throughout the country. Pick the region that’s the right fit for you and Join VHA today.
