Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Allen Hugh Crawford, Jr.

Allen graduated from high school three weeks before enlisting in the Army in early 1943. He was living in Detroit, where he grew up and delivered newspapers in the morning before school. Allen read about the war and was eager to serve his country.

Allen served with the Eighth Air Force, 614th Tactical Fighter Squadron at RAF Deenethrope during WWII. Allen was a navigator/bombardier on the B-17 Flying Fortress. He flew 35 missions over Europe; 25 as a Navigator and 10 as a Bombardier.

Allen Graduated from Marshall College and joined the F.B.I., then Wells Fargo before working in Physical/Premises Security for Playboy Enterprises. He then opened his own Premises Liability Company.

Allen lives in Flintstone, Georgia with his wife. He is active in local VFW POST 3679, speaks frequently to history classes in local schools, and has shared his service story many times.  He is a volunteer at the local Veterans of All Wars Museum
in Chickamauga, Georgia.

Thank you for your service, Allen!
