Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Johnie David Robbins, Jr.

Johnie David Robbins, Jr., known to his family and friends as Robbie, was born September 6, 1931 in Temple, Texas. Robbie enlisted in the Navy on March 8, 1949 and retired in 1978. During his 30 years of honorable service, he served on 11 ships. Robbie served five tours of duty in the Korean War and four tours in the Vietnam War. From 1971 until his retirement, he served the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve as a petty officer first class, mess management specialist.

Robbie received a number of medals, including the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.

Robbie passed away on December 31, 1996 at Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California at the age of 65.
