It’s common for health care professionals to temporarily leave the industry, whether it’s to spend time raising a family or to work in a different field. And while transitioning back can be challenging, there are many ways to ensure that the process is both smooth and fulfilling. So with the New Year approaching, take these tips and make a successful return to your health care career in 2017.

Define Your Goals

Knowing where you want to go is the first step. With this in mind, reflect on what’s most important to you – professionally and personally. Then, do some research to figure out which roles best match your goals and interests. Once you’ve narrowed your search, consider volunteering in one or more of those areas to gain a better understating of all the responsibilities, expectations and benefits involved.

Update Your Knowledge and Skills

The health care industry is always changing, so you’ll need to get up to speed on what’s currently going on in your field of study. In many cases, you can take refresher courses to fulfill educational, re-licensure and other position requirements. If you want to pursue a completely new direction in health care, you may have to obtain a new degree or certification.

Move Forward with Confidence

You’ve already proven your potential to succeed in this industry before. And now that your goals are defined and your knowledge and skills are updated, you can go into your next interview with confidence. Let it show.
