Air Force Veteran Glenn Bremenkamp served 20 years before retiring as a major in 1972. He’s flown missions in Vietnam, and also served as a forward air controller during the same conflict.

Retired Air Force Maj. Glenn Bremenkamp is one of nearly 800 Veterans competing in this year’s National Veterans Golden Age Games. The event takes place May 7-11 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Accomplishing the mission is something he’s familiar with. He considers himself very competitive, but his main goal is to finish when he competes alongside nearly 800 of his fellow Veterans at the 2017 National Veterans Golden Age Games May 7-11.

“I’m competing in the track and field events, and shotput and javelin,” said Bremenkamp, who recently celebrated his 84th birthday. “I think it’s great the VA supports Veterans like this.”

Bremenkamp said he looks forward to the competition, but simply sharing time with other Veterans is what really drives him.

“Being a Veteran has its benefits. I’ve participated in the National Senior Games several times, but this is different,” he said. “This is a great way to reunite Veterans, share experiences, war stories, and camaraderie. My military service was a turning point in my life, and I’m proud of that.”

Registration for the National Veterans Golden Age Games has ended, but volunteers are needed to help make the events successful. Interested volunteers can sign up online at www.veteransgoldenagegames.va.gov and clicking on the Volunteer tab,
