On Independence Day, we celebrate the birth of our United States of America as a free country. On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence, declaring the legal separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain rule.
After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a ‘Committee of Five’ including Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4.
As we celebrate our nation’s independence, we also celebrate and thank those who have served this country and fought to keep it free.
We honor your service.
