Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Samuel Tom Holiday.

Samuel served during World War II. He was 19 when he reported to boot camp in 1943. He went on to join the group of Navajo Code Talkers who used a communication code enemies could not decipher.

He served with 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. During the war, an exploded mortar injured one of his ears.

Following the war, Holiday returned to the Navajo Reservation. Throughout his life, he has been a frequent participant in Veterans events.

He died Monday at age of 94.

We honor his service.

See the movie “The Wind Talkers”. Excellent portrayal of the service and sacrifices of our Navaho citizens.

It is really good to see these veterans get honored. We forgot their great deeds in World War. I’ll nominate someone I knew.
