Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Keishla M. Santiago. Keishla served from 2008 to 2012.
In July 1990, Keishla was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico and, in 2008, enlisted in the Marine Corps in Miami as an administrative specialist. She was meritoriously promoted to lance corporal for achieving the highest grade of her class in military occupational specialty school at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After graduation, she was stationed with the Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa and then Marine Aviation Training Support Group 22 in Corpus Christi.
She currently resides in Kissimmee, Florida and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies with a certificate in Queer Studies at Florida International University, and she hopes to graduate this upcoming December and head to graduate school after. She has also assisted over 3000 student Veterans with educational benefits, transitional guidance and the disability process as a student worker at Florida International University. Keishla also volunteers with TransSocial Incorporation in South Florida to assist the Trans/LGBTQ+ community in South Florida.
