Virgil Domino, a World War II Veteran, had the opportunity to fly a B-24 bomber in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Virgil is familiar with the aircraft since he was a flight instructor during the war and flew B-24s. However, his opportunity to fly the “Diamond Lil” came with the help of his neighbor of 40 years Corey Schoenewe.
“Sometimes we have the tendency to forget that our neighbor of 40 years or the guy in the nursing home who isn’t saying much . . . is a Veteran,” Schoenewe said to Newson6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, “and sometimes it’s just good to remember it, and do something nice for him.”
Virgil flew the Commemorative Air Force’s B-24 bomber that has now ended its journey and is on display at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.
