Last month, we posted a list of hiring events taking place across the country. These events are the result of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, VA, and the White House collaborating to help Veterans find work through the “Hiring Our Heroes” program.

Below, you’ll find a list of hiring events located throughout the country from September 6 through September 29, 2012. Double-check before heading off to the event because the date may be subject to change. Click on the state to find out when and where the event is being held. If you don’t see your state listed, don’t worry! We’ll put together a new list of hiring fairs for the month of October in a few weeks—so be sure to check back! You can also see a complete list of this year’s hiring events here.

Good luck!

There should be a veteran association authorized by the government to see how many civilians were hired over veterans. The VA itself should not do this, otherwise it will say that it hires vets.

    I share he same story!
Veteran, many years of service, have been applying to 7 years, worked as contractor for those same 7 and nothing with the Federal Govt.

Now I am unemployed again for the 3rd time.

I agree, the USAJOBS hiring process is a big sham!! Probably nepotism, cronyism, or just plain discrimination of veterans. My wife has been trying for over 10 years and nothing!! She has an MA, a BA and AA with experience form the bottom up!

I have seen the caliber of people in the federal sector and it burns me up that many of them have a job, a pension and no military service….. I have worked side by side as a contractor with them and it is so shameful that educated experienced veterans cant get a job but low caliber people can.

What can we do? I have heard complaints and have complained for so long and it seems nothing will ever be done. Selecting officials hire their buddies, or their family and move up the chain and the chain does the same thing.

Why aren’t there any job fairs in Georgia in or near the Atlanta area? We have the highest unemployment rate in the nation?

    • Alex Horton September 20, 2012 at 10:02

Lolita, there are four coming to the Atlanta area this year. You can find them on this map.

Unemployed 3+ years, over 50 years old & no call backs.
    Discrimination?
Filed dozens of apps in WA & MN.
    So much for hiring vets.

Its all nepotism. I have three degreees in education 120 applications an no job with a 30% disability rating. And they say Im not qualified. Can you beleive this I was a Marine NCO with leadership experience.
People in the hiring positions are ignoring the Presidential directives.

    Nothing in Hawaii?

I read all of these announcements that “We are hiring americas veterans”. Apparently, someone have theit information twisted! The president has directives to hore the veterans. Is it happening? If it is I am veteran that has been applying for jobs now for three (3) years.

I have 30 years plus in the computer field (17 in the military and 13 in the civilian sector) practically in every area , 20 years of honorable miltary service and a retired disabled veteran with 10% veterans preference. I have completed the Veterans Administration Rehabilitation program earning a MA in Information Technology Management and a BS in Computer Information Systems.

I have applied for every IT and computer position from GS-5 to GS- 11 for the last 10 years. I have even applied civilian sector jobs for the last 10 years. I have received letters from Human resources offfice for Lackland, Randolph AFB and Fort Sam Houston, etc indicating that I did not qualify for a GS-5 or GS-7 in the IT field. I qualify for any GS-9 position with education alone; having a Masters degree in IT Management. What is wrong with this picture. I tell you what’s wrong. Agencies are not abiding by the president’s policies.

The president has directives in place to hire america’s veterans but apparently a lot agencies are not abidding by them. You agencies need to abidding by the president’s directives and hire veterans and stop hiring your family and friends!!! Mr. President you have approved some great directives to honor and hire veteran but it is not working to its full potential because some agencies are ignoring them.

Tell me about it. I am a veteran with 8 years as an army medic, 14 years civilian medical experience and will have my Bachelor’s in Health Care Administration in Dec and I still can not find a job…not even The VA. I have applied to 8 jobs at the VA alone and been declined for all of them. I also have a 10 point preference for a service connected disability. I was a GS-8 when I got laid off last Nov. My unemployment is running out soon and I will be homeless. I give up entirely on the VA. They hire people who already have jobs instead of coordinating with unemployment t agencies to hire the unemployed first. This should be a PRIORITY even if they are falling just short if the ridiculous KSAOs. The skills can be easily learned.

I just got tired after 10 years of applying at a federal service including the VA. I was Sprint network operations (data) in 2002 and laid off, applied at the VA Information Technology…oops reconsidered but…

    • Alan B. September 18, 2012 at 08:29

You’re so right. There has been nothing but lip service coming from the VA, Dept of Labor, White House and the rest on this “Hiring Heroes” spectacle because many of our nation’s heroes are still collecting unemployment checks while constantly being passed over and turned away from from jobs, many by way of hiring discrimination. This is just another wasteful program that the super committee should include for budget cuts.

Dear Veteran, if applying for a government position, write your resume just like the announcement. May want to look up the job series book for the job so you enter the key words the system is looking. The screening is done by computers that give weight to certain words to determine if you meet qualifications, then determines the grade you qualify to compete. When all is done, the applications that make it are sent to the agency to select the best candidate. Normally you can get GS 11 and below with little competion as a VET. Most IT work has been outsourced by republican administrafion to say the goverment has been down sized. However, all the laws they pass to monitor peoples business such who takes the pill, requires people. so look employment with a goverment contractor.

      • Manuel September 26, 2012 at 17:21

The VA hires civilians (no military service). Look at the phlebotomists at the VA clinics, do they look like veterans to you? The interviewers are civilians not vets, of course they don’t care about vets.

        • Kate Hoit September 27, 2012 at 09:34

          Manuel,

VA employees over 300,000 and Vets make up 30 percent of that. We’re working to increase that number to 40 percent. We’re trying!
