Start your career at one of the best places to work in America. We’ve worked hard in recent years to create an environment where our employees can thrive, and those efforts are paying off.

This year, VA was named one of the nation’s top large employers by Forbes magazine. In a survey of 50,000 Americans, a high number of VA employees said they would recommend working at VA to their friends and family.

“Being recognized among America’s best large employers is about the impact our employees have on our Veterans because of the improvements VA has made to the employee work experience – ultimately resulting in better care and service,” said VA Chief Human Capital Officer Tracey Therit.

Last year, Forbes also named us one of America’s best employers in 17 states and a top employer for new grads. We also ranked sixth among the 17 largest federal agencies considered Best Places to Work in the Federal Government in a 2019 Partnership for Public Service report.

“Our engagement score reflects ongoing efforts to listen to and support our career professionals,” said Darren Sherrard, associate director of recruitment marketing at VA, after the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government ranking was announced. “Even as we strive to climb even higher, it’s wonderful to know that employees feel satisfied serving our nation’s Veterans every single day.”

Enjoy the rewards of a VA career

Having satisfied, engaged employees is key to fulfilling our mission of providing the best health care to millions of the nation’s Veterans.

Many of our employees will say working with this unique group is their favorite part of working at VA, but that’s not where the rewards and benefits of a VA career end.

Throughout the U.S. at more than 1,200 VA locations, we seek to create supportive, positive work environments where employees feel empowered to help fuel innovative change and encouraged to grow their careers.

Beyond our work and mission, we offer competitive pay and unbeatable benefits. These include 36 to 49 days of paid time off per year and access to a range of premium-paid health insurance plans.

Parents considering a career at VA may get access to on-site child care centers and child care subsidies. We also offer up to 12 weeks of paid time off for birth, adoption or foster care of a new child for employees covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act.
