UPDATE: My HealtheVet will no longer offer Advanced accounts beginning on September 15, 2021. If you have an Advanced account, your account will revert to a Basic account on September 15, and you may lose access to requesting VA prescription refills online. If you have used RX refill within the last 12 months, you will be permitted to continue for a short period of time.  We continue to strongly recommend that all users upgrade to Premium accounts as soon as possible. Advanced account holders whose accounts are reverted to Basic accounts will not have to re-register and can still upgrade to Premium after September 15. They will also still be able to request VA prescription refills via phone or by mail. To learn how to upgrade your account, read below.

My HealtheVet, VA’s online patient portal, gives you access to your VA health information so you can understand and manage your VA care.

Beginning in September 2021, My HealtheVet Advanced accounts will be discontinued.

If you have an Advanced account today and do not upgrade to a Premium account, your account will revert to a Basic account. If that occurs, you will lose access to the pharmacy features, including the ability to request and track your VA prescription refills.

That means… it’s time to upgrade to a Premium account.

With a free Premium account, you can securely access your VA health information, 24/7.

Using your My HealtheVet Premium account, you will be able to:

  • Request VA prescription refills, track your VA medications, and access your current VA prescriptions and prescription history.
  • View, download and print your VA health information, reports and images from your VA medical record.
  • Send online secure messages to your VA care team to ask them non-urgent health questions; ask to renew your medications; and send updates on your condition.
  • View, schedule, reschedule and cancel VA appointments.

How to get started

If you are new to My HealtheVet, create an account by visiting the My HealtheVet website, selecting Register, and filling out the required fields. Make sure to check the boxes verifying that you are a VA patient and Veteran.

If you are already a user, you may have a Premium account. If you do, there will be a “P” icon next to your name.

Also, if you currently use secure messaging on My HealtheVet, you’re all set. Patients who use secure messaging already have a Premium account.

Three ways to upgrade to Premium level

If you have an Advanced account, there are three ways to upgrade to Premium level: in person, online or through a video appointment. Upgrading your account is free.

If you want to upgrade in person or through a video appointment, contact the My HealtheVet coordinator in your local VA facility. Ask about upgrading to a Premium account.

You can locate your VA facility’s contact information through VA’s facility locator tool.

To upgrade online, you’ll need to use your DS Logon Premium or ID.me secure sign-in credentials. You can learn more about the online upgrading process on the My HealtheVet blog post.

Now is the time to upgrade your My HealtheVet account

With a Premium account, you’ll still be able to request refills of your VA prescriptions. You’ll also gain access to all the tools, including secure messaging, access to your VA medical record online and more.

Cannot reset anything another useless website from VA. Rating minus – 3 1/2 guess only thing left is use is id me and hope it works. What is the purpose of using id me so the “credit card” charged right away or no meds?? July 31, 2021.

I’m a widow of a career veteran and use tri-care for life. Does this effect me in trying to get meds from express scripts?

So far my interactions with the VA have been positive. I didn’t start with the VA until 2015, when I wanted get hearing aides. I use MyHealthyVet a lot. With it, I get my refills of my prescriptions, can contact my Dr and team, and can even see the results of blood tests and xrays too Push and see how to get the coverage you deserve. You served America, and now it is time for America to serve you, to treat the ailments you have from service.

Someone is on the cusp of losing their Department within the VA.
Personally I think that this is just one more way for the V.A. to be able to shuck off many, many,, many Veterans.
As Jim Neighbors used to say in the TV show “Gomer Pyle”,
“For Shame, for shame, for shame”

My experience with myhealhevet has not been good. Almost every time I attempted to set up an account It never got completed. It was a big waste of my time. My time is more valuable than theirs because I have less of it. That time is gone, I can’t get it back. This is the choice I am faced with when contemplating using this website. It leaves me feeling not very important to the VA. Take care and good luck.

My objection to the “Premium” account is that we are now forced to accept and/or use Secure Messaging.
It used to be optional and you could refuse to have it available. Then they changed this policy, without telling us.
I personally don’t like the way VA staff copy and paste our Secure Messages in their entirety into our MEDICAL records.
Why did they take the option to decline away from us??

First time I’ve even heard of MyHealtheVet! Will access website through the public library as I don’t own a printer let alone a.computer.

This is the problem with Vietnam era veterans. Some of us don’t have the funds to upgrade from a low GB cell phone.
Even one DFAS agent told me to buy computer or (my words) lump it. Gee thanks!

I found that this was really helpful for my Family.

How do you know if your account is an advanced account and not a premium account?

    • Stuart July 26, 2021 at 11:21

When you log into My HealthleVet it will state Welcome Your Name (Premium P), this information is on almost every page on the Website. I would show a picture, but this reply is text only.

Yet more crap: DS Logon Premium or ID.me secure sign-in credentials – DS login does not work, they have an old phone number and can not work with me since I’m to old, 1986 is as far back as they go, every vet from Vietnam is screwed, again. ID.me wasted two weeks and ended up giving up.
Travel to a VA center: I live 310 miles from the nearest VA center, 620 miles round trip, I can’t afford two days and hotel just to be given the run-around at the VA center that we both know I’d get, either the person that does the upgrades is sick of off on a tangent somewhere, been there and done that.
