The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) is actively hiring Veterans Service Representatives (VSR) nationwide. VSRs support Veterans by processing their new and existing benefits claims.

Recently, VA added asthma, rhinitis, and sinusitis as presumptive conditions related to some toxic exposures that may have impacted military service members while on active duty in some recent military operations.

Facing a surge of claims stemming from these newly added conditions, and to help tackle existing claims made by Veterans, VBA is urgently hiring more VSRs at more than 60 locations.

Due to the urgent nature of these positions, these 4 job announcements will close on Sept. 27, 2021:

I was a VSR for a short period of time before I found out it wasn’t a good fit for me working in a cubicle. It’s a tough and high pressure job. If you aren’t capable of applying through USAJobs then find another vocation.

If you truly want to help Veterans and their survivors then it just might be the right fit but the application process was tough several years ago. I retired with 20 years on AD and am a disabled Veteran. I still had to apply 4 times and was only accepted under a recent graduate program after using by voc rehab benefits.

The benefits are great so it’s definitely worth checking out!

I’m sick and — tired of Covid being used for sorry ass service .

  4. Bert Johnson September 22, 2021 at 20:17

The VA itself is mostly bs. All they do is come up with program after program to “help” vets , yet they have no one to run the programs. All just so they feel good about themselves.
Seems like all they hire is blacks anyway, so it’s no wonder their sooo fuked up !
VA – doing more for themselves before doing for ANYBODY ELSE, if ever!!

      Racist much?

  5. Michael dragan September 22, 2021 at 06:33

    • Jasmine September 26, 2021 at 13:22

I don’t understand how race take a part in the office Proficiency. Most African Americans in the world are successful.

Applying on USAJOBS is like applying to a job at the FBI.

NOT ALL ARE COMPUTER LITERATE AND KNOW HOW TO SCAN ITEMS TO UPLOAD.

    THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNFAIR

    • Beth September 22, 2021 at 20:35

You have to be computer literate, we use various programs. And upload information. You have to know how to use USAJOBS and practice following the instructions. How can someone apply for position and don’t understand how to navigate USAJOB. It’s fast pace, Mentally challenging and some just dont make it past 1st year probation. Just being honest,

    • Argento Delores September 22, 2021 at 21:04

If you’re not computer literate what help could you possibly be

  7. Kenneth A Phillips September 21, 2021 at 18:53

I was a Medical Service Corp ( MSC ) officer, Captain in the Air Force. I have years of helping Vets. I applied for the VBS position several times. I’m very qualified for the position. I never got a chance to interview. All the while, I saw minorities put in the job. They would stay long enough to move to another job. Not one job was allocated to a college educated, Caucasian disabled veteran like me. So no wonder the VA needs VBS personnel. I got tired of wasting my time on this fixed application process.

    • Anthony Williams September 22, 2021 at 17:13

Wow, so it’s the minority’s fault for being more qualified than you… no wonder you didn’t get the Job….

    • Argento Delores September 22, 2021 at 21:05

Maybe they just don’t want racists handling the process?

  8. Bob Lee September 21, 2021 at 15:58

Treat your Veterans better and not like every vet is the same. Until the VA took down the poll, 25% of vets were not happy with the VA in Spokane

    • Walter "JWA" Richardson September 21, 2021 at 20:28

That is quite unfortunate, but you cannot put every VA location into the same category. There are some areas that do an outstanding job taking care of veterans. Let’s not get in the habit of doing that. That’s just like saying every person in America is the same, which we know is far from the truth. Additionally, you are telling those folks that go to work everyday trying to make a difference that their efforts really don’t matter. Sometimes you have to look at the glass as being half full instead of half empty.

  9. James W Appling September 21, 2021 at 12:13

The VBA is Federal employment. That should be your answer.

  10. Ashley Thompson September 21, 2021 at 11:03

    Yes.

  11. Ashley Thompson September 21, 2021 at 11:02

I hope they hire some decent ones. Most of the ones they have answering the phones are incompetent and rude. I’ve been hung up on and straight up lied to. I am an advocate for the veterans I serve and I get treated this way. I can see what goes on in their c-file and still can’t get good service. I can only imagine how the veterans get treated. Please hire veterans that have a vested interest. Stop hiring random people off the street that are clueless.

  12. Brandon September 21, 2021 at 10:47

VA is making me pay my VSP received from the USAF before they will provide me my award of 100. This was back in 2007. Anyone else dealing with this?

    • Donna Scrivener September 22, 2021 at 10:15

That is mandated by Federal Regulation – there is no way to get it waived. Did they tell you the date that your compensation payments will start going to you?

      • Brandon September 24, 2021 at 13:21

Hi, yes in 2023 payment will start again. Difficult part is that I’ve been receiving payments at 90% for a few years and now they are completely stopping them.

  13. JAY Healey September 21, 2021 at 07:54

Disability comp raises. should be considered for ALL percentages. I am only 10%, getting very little as it is, and am told 10/20 % don’t get an increase. Why???

  14. Robert Wetick September 21, 2021 at 06:39

Only lawyers and paralegals need apply since ratings are based on codified decisions of Title 38.

    • James W Appling September 21, 2021 at 12:06

Please disregard this comment as it absolutely has no substance. I have worked for VBA for 12 years and don’t have anything close to either.

  15. Debra Bond September 21, 2021 at 03:25

I would like to know if these positions are telework eligible? I live in Jacksonville Florida and the closest position to me is St. Petersburg Florida. I can’t move to the Tampa area, but I would be interested in applying under the Status Candidates announcements.

    • Jim Bon September 22, 2021 at 20:28

So you want special treatment because YOU don’t want to be inconvenienced by moving?
      Sounds typical.

  16. Harry Thomas September 21, 2021 at 01:36

There’s always the rehired annuitant route …

  17. Pete September 21, 2021 at 01:24

One way to fix the veteran crisis for unemployed and homeless would be to get them into these career fields. Problem is that it would go against the way it works make less denials and more aprovals.

  18. Arlene Samrick September 20, 2021 at 22:44

How about doing these jobs online, if not from home, moving these offices. I live in Mich w/ VA centers in Grand Rapids & Battle Creek but these positions are in Detroit. Who wants to live there? You’d get better quality candidates opening up to more locations.

The VA certainly needs more help getting benefits processed. Biggest complaint I hear from vets is how long it all takes. These ppl sacrificed enough already. Get these processes moving.

    • Walter "JWA" Richardson September 21, 2021 at 20:55

Evidently you don’t know the process(s) that govern approvals opposed to denials. The VBA is instructed to grant when you can, deny if you must. Is if fool proof!? Absolutely not!!! Just like any other process!! Whenever you put in the human factor into ANY equation, there will assuredly be some mistakes made. I’ve never met one person that hasn’t made at least one mistake over there lifetime. Should one be condemned for that everyday!!? We all should be better and bigger than that, and look for ways to make it better as opposed to condemnation. I was told in the Army that anytime I brought a complaint, bring a solution along with it!!

      • Jim Bon September 22, 2021 at 20:31

Well , your complaining about his comment ,, what’s your solution Mr. VBA??

      • Bert Johnson September 22, 2021 at 20:35

Yeah but your making mistakes with peoples lives and livelihood ,, so yes , you should be condemned, —

  19. William Patrick Shannon September 20, 2021 at 21:44

    The purpose, to betray.
There needs to be legislation to establish penalties for bad faith.
The accountability for penalties needs to be a shared responsibility between VBA examiners and the VBA administration.
Dream snatchers and vision busters needs to be a shared experience to end this charade of being a service.

  20. Richar Jimenez September 20, 2021 at 21:26

Will the VBA be mandating the vaccine?

    • Beth September 22, 2021 at 20:30

Yes! A few exceptions maybe, but you will be required to wear mask 8 hrs. Telework will be ending, and employees have til 11/22/21 to get vaccine. They plan on bringing in all employees back into office in near future. You have to wear there mask that’s given not your own and go through check points.

  21. Frutoso Romo Jr September 20, 2021 at 19:46

I am still waiting for a Texas veteran commission to get back with me
I need some help with my case

  22. Frutoso Romo Jr September 20, 2021 at 19:42

    As a disable Virtnam Veteran
    I agree
I see a lot of a no care attitude from non veteran emploee
Veterans need special needs and help after being in combat operations

    • Walter "JWA" Richardson September 21, 2021 at 21:18

I am so sorry you have those experiences and I hope things greatly improve. When you see things like that, find someone and bring it to their attention and make sure they provide you with feedback of the solution. Additionally, most folks don’t know this, the VA is comprised of 3 different organizations (Veterans Healthcare Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, and National Cemetery Administration). They all have different functions, so please educate yourself on each and identify with whom you are dealing with.

  23. Brian September 20, 2021 at 18:24

Making the positions virtual would attract more applications. I’m not interested in working in Detroit, but would love to apply, otherwise.

    • Gumbo Jim September 22, 2021 at 07:13

To sum up the comments –

  24. Shawn Donald September 20, 2021 at 18:13

I have a claim irt my back and it been remanded several times and I keep appealjng it since 2011. I injured it during service and VBA has no clue what they are reading. Im currently under evaluation for surgery. Lets take care of back log before you drown in new paperwork

  25. Thomas Douglas Willis September 20, 2021 at 18:02

these positions are hard to believe….I am a retired disabled veteran and have applied for SO CALLED openings and never had any calls, no interviews, nothing! Plus I have experience in that position….

  26. Victor Sellers September 20, 2021 at 17:32

I was medivac’d out of Vietnam due to a skin disease I contracted in Vietnam, along with nerve damage, but my medical treatment records were intentionally withheld, preventing me from filing for Benefits At Discharge while I suffered. It’s now 50+ years and one dead son from Agent Orange and still pursuing justice. I hope you get GOOD HELP, not the kind from the Vietnam Era. VBA hated us and did us wrong, and many still do!

  27. Claire Zellner September 20, 2021 at 15:09

The backlog is already unbelievable. How about working on the claims and appeals already in the system?

    • Damon Davis September 20, 2021 at 18:10

These cases are being worked. COVID has caused operations at the National Personnel Records Center to come to a halt and exams have ramped up since things started opening up in March. Without records, claims can’t move forward. Congress passed laws that make more benefits available to more veterans. This is why the additional help is needed.

    • Walter "JWA" Richardson September 21, 2021 at 21:11

Just curious, how are you without a doubt positive that they aren’t!!?? It’s very easy to be on the outside looking through a opaque window and pretend you know exactly what going on inside. Hard facts are a totally different thing to master, though it should be the norm and not the exception!!

  28. Arturo Gallegos September 20, 2021 at 15:05

    Who is a “status candidate”?

    • Brian September 20, 2021 at 18:26

Status applicant I think is an applicant with a service connected disability.

    • Debra Bond September 21, 2021 at 03:27

They are special hire categories, such as Veterans, current and former Federal employees, military spouses, etc.

      • Jane Doe September 21, 2021 at 13:20

Good luck, I’ve been doing this for 12 years and they make this job harder and harder. I am disabled Veteran and they truly need an overhaul of VBA.

  29. Maria Gutierrez September 20, 2021 at 13:42

Hiring non Veterans for these positions may cause more appeals. Non Veterans sometimes don’t understand the uniqueness of each situation. Currently it’s very hard to get a favorable decision then have VA come back and second guess the rater? And this is with experienced folks. Causes undue stress on Veterans

    • Walter "JWA" Richardson September 21, 2021 at 21:05

Veterans or non veterans are put through the same exact training program. So that particular status is mute. All must pass a very rigorous process to be certified to rate or make decisions.
